Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager/Shift Leader plays a vital role in supporting the General Manager to ensure smooth daily operations in a fast-paced, quick-service environment. The Assistant Manager will take on many of the same responsibilities as the General Manager, with a focus on daily operations, team leadership, and customer satisfaction. This position is a stepping stone toward future leadership, with the goal of becoming a General Manager in the future as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing daily operations, ensuring efficiency during all shifts (opening, mid-day, and closing).
- Place orders for food and supplies from vendors to maintain proper stock levels.
- Track and record weekly inventory of restaurant food, supplies, and equipment.
- Ensure all daily checklists (opening, mid-day, closing, food prep, temperature, safety, sanitation) are completed accurately and on time.
- Operate all kitchen equipment, including fryers, woks, and other essential stations.
- Assist with food preparation according to established recipes and preparation lists when needed.
- Organize food items, kitchen tools, and smallwares for efficient operation during busy periods.
- Address guest complaints promptly, maintaining high standards of hospitality and customer service.
- Follow proper cash handling procedures, including opening, closing, refunds, voids, comps, and making bank deposits.
- Train and develop team members to ensure a strong, cohesive team.
- Assist with dishwashing and cleaning tasks as needed to maintain restaurant cleanliness.
- Manage waste removal by transporting trash to the designated disposal area.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to stand for 8+ hours during a shift and frequently change positions as needed.
- Ability to move around the restaurant throughout the day.
- Capacity to lift and transport items weighing 50+ pounds.
- Comfort with handling fryer baskets and other kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong reading, writing, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to observe issues or inconsistencies.
- Basic math skills for counting money and handling transactions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a quick-service or fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and restaurant best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and customer service mindset.
